Description: Hand coiled Pottery Carrier Owl by the incredibly talented D.H. Mavapu! Pottery Carrier- this maiden represents the traditional way that all Pueblo women carried food stuffs or water. But in Zuni it's especially done by the women during times of religious doings to carry food to the kivas. They always dress for the occasion in there best traditional attire. They say the steam rising from the bowls is an act of creating rain and feeding the spirits. D.H. hand coils his pottery and uses both natural materials and commercial paints! He learned how to make pottery by Jennie Latte and his grandmother Rosemary James. D.H. is a very talented up and coming artist! Good things are ahead for him!
