Description: A very nice hand coiled Yei Figure jar by award winning Navajo artist Ida Sahmie. The vase has 8 Yei-bi-chi dancers around the perimeter in Night Chant scene. Each one has a different pattern on their clothing. It also has a medicine man and his patient! There are also 3 campfires around the perimeter which throws off their shadows across the bottom! The night scene includes the moon and stars in the sky and the mesas in the background. Their shadows are shown all around the bottom of the jar! Yei symbols represent the Navajo Yei Spirit who meditates between humans and the Great Spirit. Navajo Yei Spirits are believed to control elements such as rain, snow, wind, sun and control night & day. Ida uses all natural pigments for her paints and fires her pottery outdoors. A very beautiful piece of art!
