Description: Traditional Hopi hand carved Longhair (Angak'china) Kachina by Andrew Sahmie. He is holding a rattle and a doll! Their purpose is to bring rain! This is a really nice piece! Andrew learned the art of carving from his older brothers Finkle and Randall Sahmie. He started carving back in the 1980's. He carves his katsinam from the root of a cottonwood tree. He uses acrylic paints for his colors. He has won 1st and 2nd place awards at the Gallup Inter-tribal Ceremonial.
