Cochiti is a Native American Pueblo located 22 miles Southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Potters of Cochiti have made traditional pots for centuries, developing styles for different purposes and expressing deep beliefs in their designs. Cochiti is well known for figurative pottery including storytellers which were first created in 1964 by Helen Cordero. Cochiti pottery is hand coiled, fire outdoors and uses natural paints made from plants and minerals. Some notable historic potters are Helen Cordero, Seferina Ortiz, and Damacia Cordero. Some contemporary potters are Virgil Ortiz, Lisa Holt & Harlan Reano, Martha Arquero, Vangie Suina, Dena Suina, Mary Herrea & Diego Romero.
