Artist: Samuel Manymules - (Dine' - Navajo Tribe)
Dimensions: 7" tall X 7 1/2" Wide
Description: A very nice hand coiled pine pitch Melon jar by award winning Navajo (Dine') artist Samuel Manymules. The ribs on this piece come to a sharp angle towards the bottom. Samuel hand coils his pottery with precision and fires them outdoors with cedar wood. The outdoor firing often produces variances in color along with fire clouds that give the pottery unique character! It actually takes months for him to prepare his clay. After the firing, pine pitch is applied both inside and out while the pot is still warm. After the pot cools they are polished with a cotton cloth to a brilliant shine! Samuel has been consistently winning awards at Heard Museum Indian Market, Southwest Museum Indian Market and Santa Fe Indian Market since 2004 through 2015. A very striking work of art!
