Santa Clara Pueblo Pottery

Santa Clara Pueblo is one of the 19 Pueblos in New Mexico and is located on the Rio Grande, between Ohkay Owingeh (formerly San Juan Pueblo) to the north and San Ildefonso Pueblo to the south. Santa Clara Pueblo is famous for producing hand-crafted pottery, specifically blackware and redware with deep engravings. Santa Clara has some of the most forward thinking artists of all the Pueblos. Some experiment is contemporary designs pushing the boundaries of the art with fine line sgraffito etchings, combining stone polished finishes with matte finishes and creating modern shapes. Other artists like to stick with traditional shapes and designs handed down from generations. There are too many specific artists to mention, ,but matriarchs include Margaret Tafoya, Sara Fina Tafoya, Grace Medicine Flower, Toni Roller and others. Some contemporary artitst's are Nathan & Nancy Youngblood, Tammy Garcia, Jennifer Tafoya, Emily Tafoya, Daryl Whitegeese, Madeline E. Naranjo, Frances Naranjo, Stella Chavarria, Anna Archuleta, Mida Tafoya, Sherry Tafoya, Kimberly Garcia, Goldenrod, Jason Garcia, LuAnn Tafoya and many, many more!
